The
questions
There
are four questions tour participants are asked to answer.
What
am I working on?
I suppose that I can better answer this question by changing it to “what’s my creative mojo telling me to pick up” lol!
This is a hard one!!! I’m always working on a
few different things at one time. It all depends on which one is just calling my
name out! Presently I’m going through a “highlighter” color phase. These
totally 80’s vivacious neon colors are just calling to me. I have created a slew
of Gelli Prints on paper and fabric. With these fantastic prints, I have made
Art Journals, pencil cases, sets for Project Life cards, and the list goes on.
I am also working on my acrylic and watercolor skills.
My love for Mixed Media drives me beyond boundaries - so I always find myself pushing forward and experimenting.
How
does my work differ from others of its genre?
Hmm
let’s see the easiest way to answer this question is by saying that I am always
changing and transforming, I see things in “color” if that makes any sense! A
simple walk through my neighborhood can trigger an artsy adventure… Ever since
I can remember one of my biggest
strengths has been my ability to see something that at first glance maybe
simple and changing it into something interesting or pleasing to the eye.

Why
do I create what I do?
I
create to make “me” happy! I know that that may sound a little - arrogant or
snobby -even but, believe me I don’t have those “qualities in me”… When I pick up a brush, a marker, or just
simply ink up my fingers there is something that rises up from within me and
takes over my senses. This awe-inspiring feeling transfers into wanting to
teach what I do/create. I want to share with others the incredible feeling you
get when you just let go and remove all the stress, pressures, and every day “rules”
that keeps us up boxed up!
So what if my – or your art is not what society calls “pretty”?
I make art for me! Now do you see what I mean? Making sense so far? Creativity
is not a measure of skill, but a passion from within. When I teach a class I
ask my students to just let go! I explain how there are endless possibilities in
art and how it’s “not important to copy something exactly, but rather making it
yours” and being happy with that.
Here I want to share an example of how I play with Mixed Media and texture.

Meet
Kate Palmer aka Sparkle Tart
Kate
is an amazing Australian Mixed Media artist and crafter! I learned about Kate
and her inspiring art when I started designing for LSG way back in 2009! She has
inspired me with her drop-dead-gorgeous art and radiant
attitude!
In
my artsy adventurous journey I have met many people but, I have to say that
Sharon has not only been an amazing artist but a true friend! I have had the
pleasure of meeting Sharon on a couple of occasions even though we literally
live 3500 miles from each other we have so many things in common. I am blessed
to have met her and able to communicate with her beyond our artsy endeavor.
I
meet Jo while designing for some of the same design teams past and present. Jo has
a charming attitude and creates stunning pieces and spectacular cards! She does
wonders with Copic Markers and has definitely been an inspiration to me.
